Congressman Tim Mahoney, who is married,promised Patricia Allen a $50,000 a year job for two years at the campaign advertising agency.

A spokesperson for Tim Mahoney wouldn’t comment on the affair, but did say Patricia Allen quit and “has not received any special payment from campaign funds.”

Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives have been attempting to keep the alleged affair from hurting Mahoney’s re-election campaign.

Patricia Allen is a resident of Hobe Sound, and she met Tim Mahoney during his campaign in 2006.

After Mahoney was elected, Patricia Allen was hired to work on Mahoney’s staff (paid by taxpayer money) at a salary of $36,000 a year.

Rumors began swirling about Tim Mahoney and Patricia Allen’s affair, and Allen was moved to the campaign staff.

Interestingly enough, Tim Mahoney was elected two years ago in the wake of another congressional sex scandal. Congressman Mark Foley, who sent sexy (and dirty) messages to congressional pages, later resigned after the scandal was revealed.

Patricia Allen was a volunteer for Mahoney during the 2006 election, then held the job with Mahoney’s office until she was allegedly fired in January of 2008. Patricia Allen threatened to sue Mahoney for $1 million.

Patricia Allen stated that she was fired after ending the affair with Tim Mahoney. Their settlement was in March for a reported $121,000.

In a taped phone call of her firing, Mahoney said the only person who mattered was him. She did not do her job. This is how life really is. If she said anything, she would not get her last paycheck.

Mahoney’s office said, “We may issue a written statement. As of right now, no comment.”
