Phish fans might recall the “break up” note Trey Anastasio wrote about Phish being finished for good, back in 2004. Well, thankfully the band Phish has decided to reunite for a tour in 2009.
The band Phish made an announcement on their website on Wednesday stating they plan to reunite to play several concerts next year in Virginia, and plan to announce “additional touring” next year.
The Phish reunion wasn’t totally unexpected, as singer-guitarist Anastasio had hinted earlier this year that the band was discussing a reunion.
The band consisting of Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, keyboardist Page McConnell and drummer Jon Fishman performed together for the first time over four years at the New York wedding of former road manager Brad Sands in September.
This reunion announcement will certainly thrill the die-hard Phish fans. Actually Phish is known as one of the most successful touring bands of all time. In just their short 2004 our, Phis brought in about $23 million.
Phish made a limited number of tickets available through its online ticketing system (phish.portals.musictoday.com) for it March 6-7-8, 2009, reunion shows at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va. Tickets go on sale to the public Oct. 18 through Ticketmaster, or by phone at 757-671-8100, 757-872-8100 or 804-262-8100. Tickets will not be available at the venue box office and there is a two-ticket limit per show.
The band came together back in the 1980’s with a different sound that made them quite popular. Phish took some time off in 2000-2002, then broke up in 2004.
“We don’t want to become caricatures of ourselves, or worse yet, a nostalgia act,” Anastasio wrote on the band’s Web site in announcing the ‘04 break-up. “We realized that after almost 21 years together we were faced with the opportunity to graciously step away in unison, as a group, united in our friendship and our feelings of gratitude. … For the sake of clarity, I should say that this is not like the hiatus, which was our last attempt to revitalize ourselves. We’re done.”
Every one of the band members went on to do solo projects after their breakup but, none reached the success the band Phish achieved.
So are you guys happy and surprised that Phish is reuniting on tour?
