Joseph Petcka, actor, claims he killed his girlfriend’s cat in self-defense after the cat attacked him. But on Wednesday, the court was told that Norman, the tabby cat, was declawed.
Petcka is on trial on charges of felony cruelty, claims he was attacked by the 7-pound pussy named Norman, and then he beat the cat to death.
Of course there are two sides to every story, and Lisa Altobelli told the court in Manhattan that Petcka was extremely jealous of her cat, Norman.
Altobelli cried on the witness stand as she told of finding her pet’s battered body under a nightstand after an argument with Joseph Petcka on the night of March 27, 2007. “He was dead,” Altobelli said. “I put my hand there. He was cold and stiff.”
Lisa Altobelli said she grabbed the phone and called Petcka, 37, who is a small-time actor, who also played in the minor league for the Mets at one time.
“What kind of monster could kill an innocent cat?” she remembered asking him. He just hung up, she said.
Lisa Altobelli recounted how there was always something odd between Norman, her cat, and her boyfriend, Petcka.
Altobelli said after she had dated Petcka for just several weeks that, she came home one day to her apartment, and found her cat scared and soaking wet.
“He was hissing [at Petcka],” Altobelli, a Sports Illustrated writer testified. “Obviously, that was a huge red flag.”
On the evening that her cat, Norman, was killed, Joseph Petcka had been drinking and the couple had an argument. “You love Norman more than me!” Petcka exclaimed, Altobelli testified.
Lisa went on to bed but remembered hearing Petcka calling the cat in a weird singsong voice saying, “Norman, Norman, Norman.”
Altobelli stated that Petcka woke her up by jabbing her in the side with his knee and grabbing her neck, telling her the cat had bitten him.
Having enough, Altobelli grabbed her purse and took off from her apartment, telling Petcka to leave, or she would call the police.
An official from the ASPCA will testify today, Thursday, that the cat died from being beaten, that caused broken ribs and massive internal injuries.
Joseph Petcka faces two years in prison if he is found guilty of the cat killing charges.

Anyone who’s ever had a cat or knows someone who has a cat knows cats do not attack or bite people without cause. If that cat bit this asshole then it was in selfdefense. I’ve been bitten and scratched by a cat once but that was entirely my fault but I also didn’t beat it to death because of that! This asshole deserves a beating equal to what he inflicted on that small defenseless animal and frankly, I don’t think two years is enough.

I have four cats, one of them is ferrel and she requires special handling. When she came to live with us I tried to hold her. Big mistake! She bit the hell out of my hand. Not her falt. I thought she was human friendly at the time. She is about six now and still won’t allow you told hold her but she will come when call, let you pet her, and sometimes will crawl up on my lap.
If this guy gets off for what he did without punishment and rehab I think we are doomed.

There is never any reason to harm an animal like that. “Self-defence?” Cats usually run and hide when they feel threatened. This idiot deliberately sought this animal out and murderd him. Joseph Petkilla? That’s one cute little fluffy, friendly looking cat. It was also a loved cat and apparently, it enraged him that she loved her cat. What a charming character!! That poor little sweet, innocent kitty probably bit him when he was tearing it’s fur out, like any being would trying to survive during a violent attack. With fur and feces all over the apartment, it seems pretty obvious that he tortured it first… and that is far from an act of self-defense.

But I am a cat owner myself, and to be honest, I wonder what Norman’s owner was thinking. She came home to find that he had soaked her cat with water, and said that was a “red flag”??? but continued dating him??? Then she left Norman by himself in the house with a violent drunk?
