Update:

See new post on Palin’s email hacked here.

Here is Ann Kilkenny’s open email about Sarah Palin. Keep in mind she is some housewife from Wasilla, Alaska that may just be jealous of Sarah Palin. Who knows?

CNN has reported that most people sing Palin’s praises and Kilkenny is one of her few critics. Wasilla substitute teacher Anne Kilkenny compared the atmosphere surrounding Palin to a popularity contest.

“I found the informal manner in which she ran City Council meetings had the flavor of turning city business into a fan club,” said Kilkenny, a registered Democrat who moved to Wasilla from Seattle, Washington, in 1981.

This weekend, Kilkenny, one of the few identifiable Palin critics in Wasilla, wrote an e-mail to friends criticizing Palin’s track record that rapidly spread to blogs and Web sites.

“Everybody likes her because she’s a real nice person. She’s always been nice to me and everyone in town,” Kilkenny told CNN.com. “I wrote my message in the spirit of providing complete and accurate information. I’m not angry or jealous.”

But here is the email Kilkenny wrote about Palin:

ABOUT SARAH PALIN
I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992.
Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a
first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her
father was my child’s favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a
first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more
City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the
residents of the city.

She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most popular
girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and
won’t vote for her can’t quit smiling when talking about her because
she is a “babe”.

It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She
kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents
for seven months.

She is “pro-life”. She recently gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby.
There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.

She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

She is savvy. She doesn’t take positions; she just “puts things out
there” and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.

Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a
champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly
sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his
work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or
so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their
major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything
like that of native Alaskans.

Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.

She’s smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000
(at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about
670,000 residents.

During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running
this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been
pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had
gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had
given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6
years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over
33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the
City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation
(1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a
regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she
promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they
benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration
weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed
money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage
the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said
she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a
new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a
multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece
of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was
still in litigation 7 yrs later–to the delight of the lawyers
involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the
community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it
would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that
could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office
redecorated more than once.

These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.

As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus
in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will
make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she
proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.

In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she
recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while
she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today’s
surplus, borrow for needs.

She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas
or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated by
her or her staff. Ideas weren’t evaluated on their merits, but on the
basis of who proposed them.

While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected
City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from
the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents
rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin’s
attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew
her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the
Librarian are on her enemies list to this day.

Sarah complained about the “old boy’s club” when she first ran for
Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of “old boys”. Palin
fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as
Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people,
creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally
grateful and fiercely loyal–loyal to the point of abusing their power
to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the
case of pressuring the State’s top cop (see below).

As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla’s Police Chief because he “intimidated”
her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska’s top
cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure
and she had every legal right to fire him, but it’s pretty clear that
an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn’t
fire her sister’s ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation
for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen
contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she
later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to
replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded
for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew
her support.

She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in
help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town
introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council
became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She
abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn’t
like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.

Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything
publicly about her.

When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got
the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one
of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no
background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great
job which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the
high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the
structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this
Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party)
engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some
undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all
her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and
garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a
gutsy fighter against the “old boys’ club” when she dramatically quit,
exposing this man’s ethics violations (for which he was fined).

As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from
Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel
politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the “bridge to
nowhere” after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.

As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget
guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing
projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative
action restored most of these projects–which had been vetoed simply
because she was not aware of their importance–but with the unobservant
she had gained a reputation as “anti-pork”.

She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party
leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated
them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a
fiscal conservative.

Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah.
They call her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her unbridled ambition and
predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly
stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made
point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah’s
mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and
experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.

As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package
of legislation known as “AGIA” that forced the oil companies to march
to the beat of her drum.

Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to
global warming. She campaigned “as a private citizen” against a state
initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from
pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the
state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State’s
lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior’s decision to list polar
bears as threatened species.

McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a
heartbeat away from being President.

There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more
knowledgeable and experienced than she.

However, there’s a lot of people who have underestimated her and are
regretting it.

CLAIM VS FACT
•“Hockey mom”: true for a few years
•“PTA mom”: true years ago when her first-born was in elementary
school, not since
•“NRA supporter”: absolutely true
•social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill
that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships
(said she did this because it was unconsitutional).
•pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to
promote it.
•“Pro-life”: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby
BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life
legislation
•“Experienced”: Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has
residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska.
No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on
supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city
administrator to run town of about 5,000.
•political maverick: not at all
•gutsy: absolutely!
•open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at
explaining actions.
•has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
•”a Greenie”: no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores
and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
•fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
•pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city
without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built
streets to early 20th century standards.
•pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on
residents
•pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city
government in Wasilla’s history.
•pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union
doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim
that she is pro-labor/pro-union.

WHY AM I WRITING THIS?

First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informed
voter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student voting
programs in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny +
Alaska), you will find references to my participation in local
government, education, and PTA/parent organizations.

Secondly, I’ve always operated in the belief that “Bad things happen
when good people stay silent”. Few people know as much as I do because
few have gone to as many City Council meetings.

Third, I am just a housewife. I don’t have a job she can bump me out
of. I don’t belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no
fool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will
cost me somehow in the future: that’s life.

Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100
or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah’s
attempt at censorship.

Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to
say anything because they were somehow vulnerable.

CAVEATS
I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in
spending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor)
from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of
Wasilla, and I can’t recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust
for inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossible
for a private person to get any info out of City Hall–they are
swamped. So I can’t verify my numbers.

You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the
population of Wasilla, ranging from my “about 5,000″, up to 9,000. The
day Palin’s selection was announced a city official told me that the
current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was
5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to
2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90’s.

Bravo. This needs to be out there so that people will know what kind of person she really is. I didn’t like her from the moment she started her snide little speech. She is the epitomy of what we are trying to GET RID OF.

Thank you for a “light in the dark”. This “choice” made by McCain is so off-the-wall it is ridiculous. It assumes that we women are fools and are unable to see for ourselves that Palin is no Hillary. I am an Independent by nature and only declared myself a Democrat so that I could vote in my state’s primary elections. I have always tried to vote independently, choosing who I felt would be the best for our country. This year my choice is clear — and it’s not McCain/Palin which is just a JOKE.

I take this with a grain of salt. First and foremost, show me a politician and I will show you something they have done that others dont agree with. I will follow that up with, there is perhaps truth to some of this but also note that this is a bitter woman that I know nothing about. She is the opposite party and therefore right off that bat is not going to agree with certain issues. This email has no credibility with me but will linger in my head as does the negative things I hear about all candidates.

I take the positive and the negative press of our candidates and toss it out. First, our press is hugely democratic as is hollywood. Secondly, politicians are salesmen/women and if they were a “hockey mom” for one season they will exploit it. Just as someone like Ann will post negative comments but reading this I see a “caty” undertone to it. There is dislike here, that is obvious and frankly I could care less.

Palin would not be where she is today if she was not a hard baller and as many negative things that can be stated, just as many positives can be found. I will vote in what I think is best for me, my family and my country, end of story. I have never felt that Obama is qualified, but the difference between Palin and Obama, she is running for Vice President, not President. Take my words however you like, but this is just some anti Palin, bitter democrate giving her opinion with perhaps some facts, some of which are absolutely unimportant. I can honestly say that I have not made up my mind who I will be voting for, the pickings are slim, but I cetainly will not allow this hatemail influence me and sway me one way or the other.

    thats my 2 cents

This should be shared with every voter! This country does not need someone like this in a position of power–we’re in enough trouble already from the antics of Bush/Cheney. McCain declares himself a great patriot of this nation, but his self-serving political choice of this right-wing darling makes it clear that his primary interest is in gaining power and glory for himself, not in helping the country. Talk about terror! I am terrorized by the prospect of this woman being a heart-attack or bullet away from the presidency. This needs to energize the other side to GET OUT THE DEMOCRATIC VOTE!

I listened to the NPR interview, researched what I could and am getting a really bad feeling about Palin. I also listened to her at the Convention and she looked straight into the camera and, in plain talk, lied about several things and did it with great moral authority and conviction. You can check out where she quote streched the truth on any independant news site.
Phil Gramm, in my opinion, is one of the worst sneaky self-serving polititions and was behind the current Banking and Mortgage crises. He called Middle Class folks a bunch of winers and said any recession was all in their heads before being fired from the mccain Campaign.
Carly Fiorina, former head of Hewit Packard before the board ousted her for allot of bad decisions and causing detremental infighting, has supported not taxing funds transferred to foreign countries by American Companies and been very vocal on the benefits of outsourcing implying the American Worker is just a bunch of winers herself.
Now the truth is coming out about Palin and she sounds like a vindictive, back stabbing, lying face with no relevant education and no experience. I would not hire her to run General Motors, IBM or even manage a department in any company, let alone run the most complex and powerful country in the world.
Both Gramm and Fiorina were very, very bad managers of their constituant responsibilities and you can check it out by Googling if you do not already know this. Now, as more information comes out about Palin, I have to question John mccain’s judgment if he really picked these folks. Knowing his history, I don’t think he would have anything to do with these people before this election run. He was a good man and stood for America First but these folks he has put in place could care less about America in my opinion. Palin seems to be in the same mold asGramm and Fiorina.
I honestly believe John mccain would have nothing to do with people like this. Either the Party is pulling his strings or he is slowing down as he gets older and not aware of what is going on around him. I’d like to think the latter rather than think he has sold out after a lifetime of standing for what he believed in. In either case I am just writing this to say thank you to Ann. If the Republican slam machine can intimidate enough individuals, and it has managed to do it with many individuals and news reporters, this country is in real trouble. So, thanks Ann for standing up and being a good American Citizan when we really need as many of them as we can muster these days.
I have a daughter and am writing this in hopes the truth will help pick the best person to run our country during this time of quantum change and I’m afraid I can no longer support John for office.

I could not agree more that with the comment from Dan from CT that the media has its work to do. Why is it that the media feeds prurient interests and goes for making instant celebs without looking for the back story that actually pertains to a person’s ability to govern wisely. My own feeling is that mainstream broadcast and print media are so controlled by big corporate interests that those journalists and editors are under constant pressure to denigrate any politician who might not govern in a way that continues to favor large corporate interests. In the past few weeks, have we not seen how they have begun to “Gore” O’Bama?

Anne Kilkenny is my/our hero for speaking up, showing us the truth about how the image being sold to America does not match up with reality. When are Americans going to wake up? This is an act, folks. Of course we love our country, left, right middle. No, there is nothing American about our way or the highway in the U.S.. In the speeches at RNC I saw lots of cheerleading and “follow the leader” and the leader is a false image PRESENTED to the public. It was amazing to see Chris Matthews point out the audience clapping and nodding like lemmings in unison for “the maverick”, ironic to say the least. Don’t get it? Well, the audience is programmed to react to talking points of RNC and a maverick is one that goes out alone, from the herd. The clever barbs of UNTRUE accusations like the Democrats want to read Guantanamo detainees their rights rather than protect Americans. Propaganda and misrepresentation of the truth. What those that applauded like lemmings on cue to the jabs and misleading, demeaning of someone serving his community that HAS done legislation and according to this piece Palin does not understand how to connect dots and relegates assistants. They were waving signs of “Service”, what do they mean, serving your community is a wonderful thing and they degrade Obama for doing that? They are not thinking independently, just reacting as they have been told to cheer for “the team” and THOSE folks are on “the other team”. What kind of America are we headed for when we must all agree and conform with “the righteous” or the majority has a say over who is deserving of rights and government representation and who isn’t?
They need to do some soul searching, those that knee jerk react to the cues as they have been programmed to respond in certain ways, but think it through folks. Following the leader is not a path to freedom or individuality, which is highly prized by many citizens that keep “following the leader”. They are programmed to think criticism is bad, but Constitution stated the people have a right to appeal to elected officials with a redress of grievances. I note: the police abuse of power and authoritarian overreactions AGAINST the law abiding credentialed press attempting to do their jobs, report to the public what is happening, where it happens.
We are being led toward LESS freedom with some of these platform planks the Republicans embrace. I respect those that think differently than I do, but they are trying to tell us to stop dissent and do what they think is “best for us”. Not really freedom, now is it? I recommend watching PBS and Daily Show with open minds and detach from corporate media, which is attacked as liberal, but HARDLY liberal with those that OWN it giving us distractions from truth. They are HARDLY being unfair to McCain or Palin. There are those that OWN the media that try to paint Palin as being picked on by the media and a victim. The same people are contradicting themselves. They turn their words around, depending upon whom they are talking about. If it’s Hillary, she has no right to claim victimhood, but Palin is being treated badly. PLEASE STOP the insanity, wake up PEOPLE! At SOME point we need to accept differences of opinion and stop the bickering over who has power and whose WAY is the ONLY and RIGHT way. Obama seems to have that understanding and wisdom of judgement. Do we really want to keep seeking to control things as my way or the highway or try to work together for the greater good for more Americans? That path is up to the individual voters that have faith that our government CAN work for US and not let if control us OR nanny us. Palin is a freash face, but the truth comes out, the freshness is kind of stale and sameness comes to mind more than maverick.

Let me straighten this out for the men who are reading, when a woman is jealous or has sour-grape-syndrome she calls the object of her hatred a bitch, and demeans her character. It is what the female of the species does, and this letter is no different. As a female, reading between the lines, she is furious about Palins “b abe” status, success, large family, cute hubby, position of power, and commendable actions in the face of having a special needs child. In other words, if she was a man she would be Keith Olberman.

As for the bloggers, every poster who finds a scrap of rumor, stray fact, or wishful claim which casts Mrs. Palin in a bad light speads the word.

So the Kilkenny letter says a lot more about the media and posters than it does about Governor Palin.

Where are the others? Stand up and be heard. What can Palin possibly do?(to you) What kind of real power do people have over others? If more people had the guts to stand up to adversity, this world we be a very different (and wonderful) place. Delusions of grandeur? Perhaps… but having my eyes opened to Palin’s history only justifies even more the need for our government to swing back to the left. Get out and get educated and vote!!!

I had a slightly different take on this.

All politicians have things they you would rather not know about in their past. People who don’t like Palin will jump on this as proof she can’t be trusted and people who support her will say Anne Kilkenny is just spreading sour grapes.

However, the thing I first thought of is how ’small town’ it makes her seem. McCain doesn’t like people to talk too much about Paul Keating and the savings and loan scandal, Obama wishes people would stop bringing up William Ayers. These things actually have import of a national or international nature.

Palin’s abuse of power is that she fires librarians that don’t who suck up to her? I think it highlights her inexperience more than anything else.

Palin is what she is and has done what she has done. In the end, what does all this matter? The RNC wrote her speech and she delivered it with all the venom she could muster. I listened to Ms. KilKenny on NPR and she sounded very sincere and authentic – unlike the vicious Palin. I believe Palin’s bite is probably as bad as her bark! We can’t have someone like that as VP and so close to the Presidency.

I read this email with great suspicion. First off I’m a Canadian so am just watching the election as an outsider. While I believe that Mrs. Kilkenny certainly exists (NPR has already interviewed her) who on earth drafts such an exhaustively detailed email with stats and even an appendix at the end of the email to detail the assumptions she made in generating some of those stats. I think this email was crafted by either a very bitter woman or more likely with the aid of democratic campaign officials. This election is so close I’m sure both sides would try anything. If I were an American (as I’m sure billions around the world wish they were but won’t tell you that) I would vote republican. Both parties agree that there is much at stake here. I believe there is too much uncertainty about Obama. If McCain sucks, throw him out in 4 years.

Having disliked Obama’s vacuous platform, and the paucity of his record, despite the Supreme Crt thing I planned to vote McCain, but no more. what an incredible selection.
I heard Anne Kilkenny on NPR–dispassionate, credible. I too often attend Council meetings in a small town and contribute on committees. This is what any informed citizen does–thanks for your service to Wasilla, Anne. I traveled as a tourist w/family in AK for 2 weeks in latter half of Aug 08. Only print news source, Anchorage paper, had headlines daily about investigation of Pallin, which sounded quite credible and made her look like a “whiner” who administered w/a high hand. Figured for a “house organ” of the state Repub party to write these things up suggested real facts were fanning the fire. Very distressed that in no town but Borders in Anchorage could one get any other newspapers or news mags. Only source of info was a few channels on local TV and internet. Very isolated re ongoing info re outside world. Anyone living here now, or growing up here, would have little sense of ebb and flow of world issues, or even issues impacting the lower 48, unless educated out of state and had parents who made you travel. One can be from a small town, but to be even from a major town in AK (we were in Anchorage, Homer, Seward among others) was to have no access to the print sources and political conversation Americans elsewhere have routinely.

Here’s some more info about the Palin family from the daughter of a co-worker of my husband.
The co-worker lived in Wasilla before he got divorced and his daughter, who still lives there, tells him that the Palin family is the most dysfunctional family you can imagine.
I realize that this is from someone other than a family counselor, but I believe that the info is coming from someone who has had actual contact with the kids, especially Bristol.
We & I mean all of us really need to try & find out all we can about our candidates before they’re put into office.

Response to #5 – You do realize that “Palin would not be where she is today if she was not a hard baller” is actually at the expense of others – if you were Anne KilKenny you would do the same.

Response to #9 – You should learn how to read a history book. The government has always passed laws in favor of whites so that they could gain land (Homestead Act), and pass the benefits down to their children (GI Bill before Civil Rights Era). If you take two people of a different background who work hard, one of those people will always have an advantage as long as the government continues to support a certain group of people.

For those of you who believe that Palin is only running for VP not P, are mistaken. Because she isn’t on the top of the ticket now doesn’t mean she wont possible be on the top someday. Come on people use your common sense. To justify her lack of experience to Obama’s, base on the fact she isn’t on the top of the ticket is ridiculous. The point of her running as VP is to be President if anything unfortunate should happen. Those of you who are against and trying to find any reason to not vote for Obama, need to come up with something more substantial. This man has the judgment, experience and had to work hard to get where he is now, certainly harder than Mccain and Palin. Unlike Mccain who married into wealth and power which helped get him where he is now has experience working to benefit those at the top and not those who aren’t so lucky. Keep that in mind…

The misinformation about Palin, and Alaska is astounding. The way some people read or hear “news” items, then exagerate as they pass them on, borders on slander and libel. Anyone who didn’t like Palin to begin with, for whatever reason, is swallowing this opinionated email as “fact”. Some even venture to state they have verified Ms. Kilkenny’s claims, when even she has claimed much of her information cannot be checked. Sarah Palin has been a wonderful leader for the city of Wasilla, and one of the best Governors Alaska has had. She was elected twice as mayor, and elected governor by a landslide. Her approval rating is above 80%. One doesn’t achieve these things by chance, or trickery. My one complaint of her is that we will lose her as a statesperson when she goes to national service. Believe what you will, but when it comes to this email from Ms. Kilkenny, consider the source.

No. We can’t “talk” about the things he does not want revealed, and the puppy dog media simply continues to wag its printed tail and lick his shoes. I’m sure Sarah Palin has her share of differences with Ann’s opinions, but I do notice that Ann goes far enough to shield herself from being revealed as statistically in error, enough so that the rest is rendered mere opinion.

This is no evidence that Sarah Palin tried to remove any specific books.

She did want an answer to a hypothetical question – who gets the final determination on what books are not suitable for a town library. She and the librarian butted heads over who should have the final word.

Maybe Palin was thinking of sexually explicit books?

Anne has not adjusted for population growth or inflation. But that doesn’t stop her from labelling Palin a spendthrift.

Anne has an uncanny ability to read minds: she knows every motivation that Palin had for every action she’s taken, and wouldn’t you know – it’s always a self-serving or malicious motive.

BTW this Anne Kilkenny seems incredibly petty. She talks about “rumors” regarding how “ruthless” Palin was in getting a point guard position on the basketball team! How Palin “hates” her because she was one of a 100 people on a petition regarding the library affair.

    Anne sounds spiteful and jealous.

    She’s pathetic.

As an Alaskan from Wasilla, I think Anne Kilkenny’s summary is excellent. She is a delightful woman, and you can tell from the writing that gossipy backbiting wasn’t her goal. Alaska might be imposing in size, but our population is miniscule compared to you folks in the lower 48. Read Anne’s email and simply ask Alaskans yourself if you think it isn’t an honest assessment: letters@adn.com (Anchorage Daily News).

I took a hard look at both conventions and both platforms. What really grabs me is not personalities (give me a break, we are electing the most powerful person in the Free World), but the idea of rebuilding the middle class, stimulating our economy with energy efficient new products (jobs that will stay in the U.S.!) and rebuilding our education system so our kids can compete in a world economy. This old lady has not forgotten the poor decisions, deception and HUGE war debt (trillions!) the past eight years have wrought on America. I honestly don’t believe two people, one an insider and the other as far outside as you can get, are going to change the entire Republican party in Washington…think power, money, resistance.

By the way, after all the listening and reading, I decided the Obama-Biden side fit my interests. Remember learning the Gettysburg Address from school days? “…government of the people, by the people and for the people…”? Our democracy is designed to allow the people to right the wrongs in a government that doesn’t listen to us. It’s called voting, so don’t forget to do it!!

Before Palin’s pick I thought either side (McCain or Obama)whould be better than Bush. McCain should have won in 2000. Anyway, just listening to Palin and reading about her I have decided to vote for Obama now. Wether every thing in Kilkenny’s email is true or not, what her motivations are, or what the actual source is, I believe Palin is the wrong VP choice.
    1. She has little experience to run a country if something happens to 72 y.o. McCain.
    2. She is too far right socially i.e. anti-abortion under any conditions even rape/fetal abnormality (I think this is a personal choice even though I’m against most other abortions)
3.She has shown poor judgement by becoming pregnant at 43 knowing her kid could have a genetic problem such as Down Syndrome
4.She doesn’t practice what she preaches (Christian family values!) i.e. her 17 YO daghter is pregnant and will be forced to marry the guy ( How many marriges like this have lasted long?) Could this be part of “dysfunctional family” mentioned before?

Some may say these are irrelevant compared with other problems, but make no mistake the next president will probably choose the next 2 or 3 supreme judges. Also the strong Republican Machine by telling MCCain to pick palin has shown that they will not let McCain change a lot of things as he may really want. Remember what they did to him in 2000, or how they reacted to his nomination before Palin pick.

I commend Sarah Palin for her bravery, I am a Democrat and a Native of California . She has been thrown into the publics eye and has been scrutinized every since. Her speak was just okay, nothing to applaud or stand up and cheer about. Sarah Palin has a long way to go and I applaud her for her courageous spirit. Her dysfunctional family is an added plus. It proves that she is normal. She may be a b***h to some and praised by others, but who are we to judge. The e-mail from Ann Kilkenny stated her viewpoint of Palin. One thing she noted in her e-mail is that Palin wanted to fire a longtime librarian, but backed down because of public outcry. Does this make her a bad person, no it does not. It shows that she cannot do as she pleases and she must answer to her constiuates. Maybe if just maybe those that opposed Bush Jr some 7 years ago and had him removed from office maybe just maybe things would have been different.
As I said before I am a Democrat, Native of California, and mixed/black race. Our Republican governer Arnold Swartzneggar has cost the state of California a lot of money. I had Democrat friends vote for Arnold because of the triple registration fees, why because they defrauded the system by driving cars in the state of California for years with illegal bogus tags. Arnold was voted in and rolled back the triple fees. I did not vote for him because of this particular issue, but I have found myself supporting a lot of his other issues. Our, once great country has declined because of the monikers of Republican, Democrat, and Independent party, Should we support a candidate just because we claim that political party NO we should not.
I am not in complete 100% support of Obama because of the qusetion be asked in the JEWISH JOURNAL which candidate will be best for Israel and their well being. I have always wondered if Obama had been raised by a black American mother and abandoned by white African father, would so many whites be supporting him like they are now.

Our country needs someone with true qualification. You Palin lovers need to be honest with yourself and realize this lady credentials is nowhere near those of Hilary Clinton’s or Barack Obama’s. Hilary didn’t work hard for all these years for some princess of the Republican party to steal what she spent her entire life working for. Women and men of America be realistic we do not need this lady sealing up those eight-million holes that we put in that glass ceiling to elect some guy to represent the Republican party and agenda. Here are some tie breaker questions for all Palin supporters to ask. In Alaska, U.S. Senator Ted Stevens is under indictment for not reporting more than $250,00 (and climbing) in gifts from the state’s most powerful lobbyist. If guilty, here’s the question: WILL YOU HELP CHANGE WASHINGTON BY URGING ALASKANS TO VOTE FOR HIS OPPONENT? If not, then you know Palin’s nomination is just to keep Republicans in power. (Eight is enough for now!) Here’s another: WILL YOU VOTE FOR FELLOW REPUBLICAN DON YOUNG WHO SPENT $1 MILLION ON LEGAL FEES WITHOUT OPENLY TELLING HIS CONSTITUENTS WHAT SORT OF LEGAL TROUBLE HE IS IN? Transparent government or not?

Have any of you noticed that this whole election is based around Palin now? The dems realized that this whole election is lost unless they can be-little and berate and demoralize her. The media has all stops pulled and have centered their propaganda scope on her. Have you noticed no attention by the main stream media given to Obama’s questionable acquaintances? Massive money losses? His poor penniless brother who he continues to ignore? His total lack of experience? Here’s a test, do a search and try and find out how many bad articles and reading you can find on Palin versus Obama, The LA times and New York times alone had 6 articles in opposition to her. Get real people, before the propaganda media and web spinners tell you what to believe, do a thorough search on your own on Obama. The media won’t do it for you it will take some research on your own. Remember an important lesson from WWW11, the Nazi’s brainwashed the public through a massive propaganda machine..the media news and movies.
