Madonna’s tour is not environmentally friendly.
Posted on August 26, 2008Madonna has been an advocate for fighting against global warming. However, her “Sticky & Sweet Tour” has 45 concerts. These are anticipated to produce more than 1,635 tons of carbon pollution because of her travel. Madonna’s tour is not environmentally friendly.
The figure of 1,635 tons is equivalent to 160 Britons’ generation of carbon in 1 year. It is also equivalent to using a standard 100 watt light bulb for 4000 years. Madonna’s 250 strong staff is expected to generate 1,080 tons of carbon flying on commercial planes. Her heavy cargo consisting of stage equipment, props and costumes would generate 460 tons of carbon.
Madonna’s fans who travel to her concerts will also generate carbon and since they are in large numbers, their carbon emissions might far outnumber that of Madonna and her entourage.
