Kara Dioguardi may not be a household name, but this girl has written many of the songs that have become huge hits. Some of Dioguardi’s songs include: “Ain’t No Other Man” performed by Christina Aguilera, as well as Kelly Clarkson’s hit song “Walk Away” and “Gone”, Ashley Simpson’s song “Boyfriend”, and many other huge songs.
DioGuardi was previously a judge on ABC’s The One: Making a Music Star. American Idol’s eighth season will premiere sometime at the beginning of January 2009.
Executive producer Simon Fuller explained DioGuardi’s hiring, saying, “We are turning the heat up on ‘Idol’ this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges’ table. She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America’s most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show.”
Others aren’t quite as “warmed up” to the idea, such as Paula Abdul. She probably just doesn’t want another chick on the show. Paula tends to be a huge “drama queen”.
Paula says she is excited about Kara Dioguardi coming aboard, yeah sure! But she is also concerned. Paula said to US Magazine, “I am concerned about the audience and acceptance. Time will tell. We’ll see.”
Paul Abdul said that DioGuardi was added because the show’s producers “wanted to try a change,” and noted that the show “always tried for a fourth judge because it followed the format of the original show, ‘Pop Idol.’ We haven’t had much luck with that working, but we’re gonna give it another try.”
Abdul replied with a “nope!” when questioned if the judges – Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson, along with DioGuardi and herself — had ever sat down to see how they will work together.
Abdul says that Kara Dioguardi will be completely involved in every aspect of the Idol show. “We shoot tomorrow,” she added.
While Paula wasn’t being tacky, she did say that a fourth judge made things more complicated.
“That’s gonna be weird if it’s a split decision,” she said. “I’m sure Simon will get to make the final [call]. It takes the fun out of all the hard work I do to push those kids through.”
Of course a guy, Mike Darnell, Fox’s President of Alternative Programming, thinks having another female there will help Paula Abdul. “With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more ‘girl power’ on the show,” he said. Maybe there will be some bitch fights too!
So what do you think of Kara Dioguardi as the fourth judge on America Idol this year?

Kara DioGuardi’s Wikipedia page describes her as “an American songwriter, record producer, and singer who has contributed to a long list of internationally successful popular songs” — she grew up in Westchester.

I first thought they were going to replace Paula. It turned out the producers decided to add a fourth judge. Though there’s gossip that Paula is pissed about this, I expect new “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi will add fresh inputs and better critique of the contestants’ performances.
