Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh won their second consecutive gold medal at the Olympics in Beijing. Despite, the nasty weather the beach volleyball superstars beat the pants off the Chinese volleyball team!

May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh won their second consecutive gold medal in beach volleyball this morning, playing through a steady and sometimes driving rain to beat China in straight sets and extend their winning streak to 108 matches.

Treanor and Walsh beat Wang Jie and Tian Jia, 21-18, 21-18, to repeat their Athens victory and show their dominance of the volleyball sport. They did not lose a set in seven Olympic matches, playing through smog and swelter and a drenching gold medal game that soaked their skimpy uniforms.

“The rain makes it better,” Walsh shouted afterward, unable to contain the California girl enthusiasm that earned her the nickname “Six Feet of Sunshine.” “We felt like warriors out there. The pressure of playing China made it pretty intense.” Xue Chen and Zhang Xi won China’s first beach volleyball medal, beating Brazilians Talita and Renata, 21-19, 21-17, for the bronze medal.

Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor dropped to their knees on the wet sand, hugging each other before shaking hands with the officials and running to the stands to embrace their friends and families.

The beach volleyball duo had stated that after they achieved their goal of gold at the Beijing Olympics, they have their minds set on starting their families.

Both May-Treanor and Walsh are both ready for babies! Misty May-Treanor is married to Florida Marlins catcher Matt Treanor, and Walsh is married to fellow pro volleyball player Casey Jennings.

Both Misty May and Kerri had agreed to put off their dreams of becoming parents until after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

“I was putting everything into it as my last Games,” May-Treanor said in an interview with the L.A. Times. “It’s too far ahead to look ahead. I would like to come back and have my kids see me play. But I would like to start a new journey and see my husband too.”

But don’t count the gold medalists out just yet. “That was eight years of awesomeness and family support and love,” Walsh said. “We both want to start a family. We need to slow down and breathe a little bit, focus on our families. I’m not done. I hope Misty’s not done. I can’t imagine playing beach volleyball without her.”

Congrats to Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor on their 2 gold wins, and good luck on their baby-making plans!

Why would this be on stupidcelebrities.com?
I agree they should take a break and start thinking about kids. They hardly see their families.
