TMZ has reported that LeRoi Moore, the saxophone player for the Dave Matthews Band, has died at age 46.
LeRoi Moore was seriously injured in an ATV accident on June 30th, just outside of Charlottesville. Moore had broken ribs and a punctured lung, but was expected to be alright.
But Moore went back into the hospital this past month due to complications.
Janet Charlton’s Hollywood had reported that LeRoi Moore had flown into Los Angeles to join the other band members of “Dave Matthews Band” for tonight’s show at the Staples Center.
LeRoi Moore died unexpectedly this afternoon in Los Angeles, California.
TMZ received a statement from the Dave Matthews Band stating:
“LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. Moore had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.”
The band went ahead with a scheduled concert in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening and dedicated the performance to Moore, who was 46, US media reported.
Hours after Moore’s death, Dave Matthews told the audience at Tuesday’s concert that his bandmate “gave up his ghost today,” adding: “and we will miss him forever,” according to the Orange County Register newspaper.
Such sad news, condolences to his friends and family!
