Just a month ago, Christina Applegate learned she had breast cancer. That news is sure to scare anyone! But Christina Applegate made the tough decision to have a double mastectomy, a procedure to remove both of her breasts. That would be so hard for any woman, but now Applegate is relived to be free of breast cancer.
Christina Applegate in an interview with Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America”, said that she is free of cancer now. This interview with Christina will air Tuesday.
Christina Applegate declares that she has won her battle with breast cancer, but had the scary decision to have both of her breasts removed to increase the chances that the cancer would not return.
“My decision after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical, and the one that was going to work for me, was to have a bilateral mastectomy,” she tells Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America”.
She says she decided to make that decision to increase her chances that the cancer would not return. “I didn’t want to go back to the doctors every four months,” she says. “I wanted to be rid of it. For me this was the choice I made and it was a tough one.”
Although she knows she made the right decision, she still finds her self breaking down at times.
“Sometimes I cry and sometimes I scream and I get really angry,” she says. “It’s all a part of healing and anyone who’s going through out there, it’s okay to cry. It’s okay to fall on the ground and just scream if you want to.”
“Absolutely 100 percent clear and clean. It did not spread. They got everything out, so I’m definitely not going to die from breast cancer.”
Hearing Applegate state that “they got it out”, makes you wonder if the reports of a double mastectomy could be true? We reported on that story, which you can read here.
“I was so mad,” Applegate admitted to Good Morning America. “I was just shaking and - and then also immediately, I had to go into… ‘take-care-of-business-mode,’ which was … I asked them, ‘What do I do now? What - what is it that I do? I get a doctor, I get a surgeon, I get an oncologist? What do I do?”‘
When she received the breast cancer diagnosis, Applegate says she, “immediately made those appointments and immediately called around for … someone to start teaching me how to live macrobiotically.”
Applegate has a family history of breast cancer. Her mother, Priddy had a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery when Applegate only 7 years-old.
Christina Applegate said she had been getting mammograms since the age of 30.
Congrats to Christina on her clean bill of health, being cancer free!
