Septulets Born To Egyptian Woman (Photos)

A 27 year-old Eqyptian woman, Ghazala Khamis, gave birth to septuplets ( 7 babies). Early Saturday morning, the septuplets were delivered by c-section, in her eighth month of pregnancy.

Non-celebrity but pretty amazing! Ghazala Khamis, mother to septuplets is in good conditioin after having a blood transfusion during her delivery.

The septuplets born were four boys and three girls. The babies weighed between 3.2 pounds and 6.17 pounds, and said to be in stable condition. The babies are in incubators in four different hospitals, that care for premature babies.

“This is a very rare pregnancy _ something I have never witnessed over my past 33 years in this profession,” Darwish told The Associated Press by phone from the hospital.

Dr. Darwish needed to deliver the babies via c-section due to pressure on Khamis’ kidneys. Khamis already had three girls, and took fertility drugs in order to have a son.

Ghazala Khamis is the wife of a farmer in the northern Egyptian province of Beheira. Khamis has been in the hospital for two months before the delivery.

“From the initial checkup, I say that none of the babies have any sort of deformities or incomplete organs,” Darwish said.

Ghazala Khamis’ brother, Khamis Khamis, said the family was shocked when they learned she was pregnant with septuplets, in her effort to have a son.

“We thought about an abortion, but then we felt it’s religiously forbidden. So we said ‘Let God’s will prevail,’” he told the AP by phone.

One good thing is Egypt’s health minister announced that the seven babies will receive free milk and diapers for two years. They are going to need it!

Can you imagine handling septuplets, seven babies?
