USA Olympic Women’s Volleyball’s Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh are heading towards their 107th straight victory.
Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, winners of 106 consecutive beach volleyball matches, go for No. 107 in the Olympic semifinals Monday night live on NBC.
The pair have expressed two goals for the short term - win the gold medal, then get pregnant as quickly as possible after the Games end.
But first things first: winning the gold.
“This is the Olympic Games, so it is a brand new tournament,” Walsh said. “Whatever we have done in the past is in the past.
“It doesn’t matter now.”

Athens gold medalists Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor overcame five set points in the first set to beat Belgium 24-22, 21-10 and advance to the quarterfinals of the Olympic beach volleyball tournament.
The win Friday was the 105th consecutive victory for the Americans.
Liesbeth Mouha and Liesbet van Breedam led 18-12 and 20-17 in the first set of the best-of-three. Beach volleyball matches are up to 21, but the team must win by two, so it wasn’t until May-Treanor and Walsh scored three straight points after trailing 22-21 that they secured the set.

“It’s a great way to start my birthday,” Walsh said.
With the victory, May-Treanor and Walsh extended their winning steak to 105 straight matches.
The defending Olympic champions, the No. 2 overall seed in the Olympic tournament behind China’s Tian Jia and Wang Jie, were tested by Belgium en route to earning their fourth straight victory in Beijing.
The two teams traded points for much of the first set before Belgium opened up a 12-9 lead over the Americans. They led by as many as four before the U.S. rebounded to fend off three set points to tie the stanza at 20-20. Mouha and Van Breedam regained the lead at 21-20 after a long rally before May-Treanor and Walsh fought off the fourth set point to even the match at 21-21. The Americans took at the lead at 23-22 before clinching the set 24-22.
“I think we just came out flat. We were like a second late on all of our defensive plays,” Walsh said.
May-Treanor and Walsh came out strong in the second set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead to open the stanza. The world champions led by double digits through most of the second set before winning 21-10.
Despite being challenged in the first set, the world champions walked away confidently from their round of 16 match.
“(The early challenge) is going to help us farther down the road,” May-Treanor said.
The second U.S. women’s team of Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs were scheduled to take the court after May-Treanor and Walsh. They face Cuba in their first elimination match.
