Johnny Griffin, a jazz saxophonist, has died at the age of 80. He passed away on Friday, July 25, at his home in western France.

Johnny Griffin was once hailed as the world’s fastest saxophonist. He continued playing at concerts in Europe right up until his death.

Griffin was born in Chicago in 1928. He went to the same school as Dinah Washington and Nat King Cole. He had toured with Lionel Hampton’s band before serving 2 years in the US army.

Johnny Griffin had relocated to France in 1962 but went to Netherlands in the 1970s. He finally settled again in France, where he traveled out for playing his saxophone.
