D.A. opposes Susan Atkins’ release application.

Susan Atkins, former Manson Family member, has terminal brain cancer. Her doctor said that she might have another 6 months to live. Atkins has applied for Compassionate Release Consideration.

L.A. County’s DA, Steve Cooley, would like to reject this application. He said that Atkins was responsible for the Sharon Tate murders in 1969. Tate was a famous actress. Susan Atkins personally stabbed Sharon, tasted her blood and used it to scrawl “PIG” on the front door of the house.

Steve Cooley claimed that Atkins had no genuine remorse and lacked insight and understanding of the gravity of her crimes. Atkins was convicted and received the death penalty, which was commuted to life imprisonment after the death penalty was ruled unconstitutional in California. The Board of Prison Terms will meet on Tuesday to rule.
