“Vertigo”, the movie, celebrated its 50th anniversary this Spring with a week of festivities at the Grand Illusion Cinema. Alfred Hitchcock directed the original movie.
The old film had been restored in a new version in 1996. The celebrations have ended in June but you can still get a copy of the movie from somewhere and watch it.
Vertigo is a psychological thriller and sad romance. Scottie (played by James Stewart) accepts a job to shadow his old friend’s wife. Madeleine, the wife, (played by Kim Novak) is a fragile woman. Scottie’s friend alleges that a ghost has returned to take possession of a living being. Scottie says that he does not believe in such things but he is drawn into the drama, nevertheless.
Scottie falls in love with Madeleine. Meanwhile, his lady friend, Midge, falls in love with Scottie. Midge is played by Barbara Bel Geddes.
