Salman Rushdie was knighted by Queen Elizabeth
Posted on June 26, 2008Celebrity author Salman Rushdie has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. This made some Muslims angry because Salman’s books were viewed as controversial.
The Buckingham Palace anticipated the backlash and did not announce the schedule for Salman’s knighthood. He was quietly knighted on Wednesday, June 25 2008. The Queen’s spokeswoman gave an excuse for not listing Salman’s name on the list of recipients for knighthood. She said that it was too late to include his name on the official list.
Salman said that he was nervous before the ceremony for knighthood. He liked the tutorial given by the Palace staff before the ceremony. The press asked him to name his favorite book but he refused.
