Susan Atkins, a former Charles Mansion family member and convicted killer of actress Sharon Tate, has requested a compassionate release from prison because she has fewer than 6 months to live.
A spokeswoman from the California prison revealed this. Susan Atkins was convicted in the 1969 murders of Sharon Tate and 4 others. She was imprisoned in the California Institution for Women in Corona, California.
James Whitehouse, Susan’s husband and attorney, said that she had terminal brain cancer. She had a leg amputated from her illness.
The prison has approved of the request for compassionate release. Susan Atkins had been imprisoned since 1971. Debra Tate, Sharon Tate’s sister, expressed surprise at this news.
