Jim Broadbent shines in “When Did You Last See Your Father?”

Jim Broadbent, the celebrity actor in “When Did You Last See Your Father?”, has enjoyed good reviews for his portrayal of the lead character.

The movie was based on a 1993 book by Blake Morrison. Jim Broadbent played the father, Arthur Morrison. The film used the flashback techniques. Through showing, rather than telling, Arthur the father was revealed to be selfish, self-centered and insensitive. Blake, the son, slowly developed his personality and became the opposite of what his dad was.

This movie explored the difficult journey of growing up with parents with a generation gap that impaired understanding of the children. The cast consisted of Colin Firth, Jim Broadbent, Juliet Stevenson, Gina McKee, Claire Skinner and Matthew Beard.

Father’s Day, June 15, is around the corner and the release of this movie in the month of June is meant to capitalize on the event.
