The Next Food Network Star is a reality show. The goal of each episode was to get one winner who would then be awarded his or her own reality TV show about cooking.

The judges for the show were Bobby Flay, Bob Tuschman and Susie Fogelson. There were 10 contestants and they were divided into teams of 2 each. They were tested on their culinary skills for 3 dishes in 30 minutes. Each chef cooked a dish that represented his or her culinary perspective. The team would then collaborate to present 1 dish as a joint effort.

The food tasters were from the Food Network. They included Chef Morimoto, Giada DeLaurentis and the Neelys. The chefs were challenged in many ways and limited by time. At the end of this episode, only Lisa qualified to stay for the next round.
