41178 Iceland News reports Iceland earthquake.

The Blue Lagoon, south of the capital, Reykjavik.

Iceland had an earthquake on Thursday, May 29, 2008. The strong quake shook the south part of Iceland. Roads and buildings were damaged. Some people were injured.

U.S. Geological Survey said that the quake measured 6.1 and it hit at their local time of around 3:46 pm. The quake’s epicenter was near Selfoss, a town that was 30 miles east-southeast of Reykjavik. Iceland’s Geological Survey said that the quake measured 6.3 on the Richter scale.

Authorities had advised residents in the quake area to leave their houses because there could be aftershocks. The residents in the capital, Reykjavik, had felt their buildings shake during the quake. The road between Selfoss and Reykjavik was closed due to quake damage.
