The Janet Chandler case suspects.
On Friday night, May 23, 2008, national TV broadcast “Dateline NBC.” This episode featured 2 cold cases. One case was on Janet Chandler, 22, whose muder was unsolved for 25 years. A group of Lapeer West High School students produced a documentary that helped police to crack the murder case.
Janet Chandler’s parents were interviewed after her murderers were sentenced in court in 2007. Four men were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. The men were Anthony Williams, 56, of Boscobel, Wis.; Freddie Parker, 50, of Charleston, W.Va.; Arthur Paiva, 57, of Muskegon; and James Nelson, 60, of Rand, W.Va.
Janet was working for Laurie Ann Swank, 49, as a hotel clerk. She was kidnapped and brought to a party, where she was murdered. She was raped by several men and then strangled. The witnesses participated in a cover up and the murder case went cold. When police re-opened the case, they interviewed the suspects and they eventually broke down to confess.
