Strong winds helped to spread a wildfire in the mountains of central California. Several houses were burnt, while evacuations continued to get people into safety zones. The fire was burning around the KSBW TV transmitter.

The fire measured a 4-square mile radius. Firefighters, tanker planes and helicopters battled the leaping flames. The fire was only 15 % contained and it slowly spread to 3000 acres wide.

Govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger had declared a state of emergency for Santa Cruz County.
