Louisiana Senator David Vitter and his wife Wendy.

The Senate Ethics Committee has said that it would not investigate Louisiana Senator David Vitter. This was in response to allegations that the Republican Senator was involved with a prostitution operation owned by Deborah Jean Palfrey. She was nicknamed as the DC Madam.

Deborah supposedly committed suicide on May 1, 2008. She was convicted of racketeering and money laundering. She left behind suicide notes for her mother and sister.

The bipartisan ethics panel explained that David Vitter’s conduct happened before he became a senator. The claims did not involve criminal charges, misuse of public office or status.

The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Government had asked for an investigation. The deputy director, Naomi Seligman, criticized the Senate Ethics Committee for their decision.
