Sinkhole in Daisetta, Texas grows.
Posted on May 8, 2008A sinkhole in southeast Texas appeared on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. This Texas sinkhole in Daisetta, northeast of Houston, has continued to grow at an alarming rate.
The Texas sinkhole has caused so much ground to cave in that it swallowed tanks, trees, vehicles and heavy machinery. The sinkhole had the dimensions of 2 football fields and was 100 feet deep. Authorities worked fast to prevent the sinkhole from growing and took measures to eliminate any disasters that could be caused by the cave in.
The town of Daisetta is above a salt dome. Authorities suspected that an old salt dome may have collapsed and caused the ground to cave in. It could take up to a fortnight for the ground to stabilize.
