Scarlett Johansson looked happy as she showed off her new diamond engagement ring for the first time in public. Scarlett was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in New York City on Monday night, May 5, 2008.

Fans of Scarlett, 23, would remember that she and her new fiancé, Canadian Ryan Reynolds, 31, began dating only in March 2007. Ryan had broken off his engagement to Alanis Morissette one month before.

Scarlett’s representative, Marcel Panseau, confirmed her engagement but declined to specify when it happened. She said that the couple had not set a wedding date yet. Scarlett was seen at the Monique Lhuillier boutique in LA looking at wedding gowns recently in February. However, she denied that she was getting married.
