On Tuesday, April 29, 2008, Deborah Jeane Palfrey hanged herself. Her body was found at her mother’s home in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Deborah, dubbed as the “D.C. Madam”, was depressed while awaiting trial for prostitution related charges.

Deborah had told Dan Moldea, an author who was assigned to write her biography, that she wanted to commit suicide rather than go to jail. Deborah had already done time before for hooking. She was due to be sentenced on July 24 for racketeering, money laundering and running a prostitution ring. She could have gotten as much as 55 years of imprisonment.

Deborah had already been through the experience of knowing that her former employee, Brandy Britton, had committed suicide by hanging. Brandy killed herself in 2007 before her trial could start. She was a professor before she lost her job and went into the call girl industry. At that time, Deborah said that she was made of tougher material than Brandy Britton. Who knew that she would follow Brandy’s example.
