Simon Cowell’s protege, Leona Lewis, tops US charts.

Leona Lewis became the first British singer to top the US pop chart for more than 20 years. Her single, “Bleeding Love”, is set to become number one. Her guest appearance on the Oprah and Jay Leno shows boosted the download sales.

Last week, Leona had the support of American Idol judge Simon Cowell and Oprah Winfrey. She appeared as Simon’s protégé on Oprah’s talk show. Computer downloads and mobile phone track sales for her single escalated after her TV slot was aired.

Leona was a winner of the British “X Factor.” She impressed her “X Factor” judge, Simon Cowell , so much that he helped to secure a $10 million album deal with Clive Davis. Her video for “Bleeding Love” succeeded in becoming 2007’s British single bestseller.
