The public voted out loose Alaina Whitaker, Jason Yeager, Robbie Carrico and Alexandrea Lushington. The number of contestants was reduced to 16 on Thursday night.

Alaina cried when she heard her bad news and Ryan Seacrest consoled her. She sang “Hopelessly Devoted to You” for the last time as her swan song to say goodbye. Several contestants wiped away tears as they lent her their moral support. Paula Abdul praised her as a gifted singer and wished her well.

Simon Cowell told Jason that he was not outstanding in the crowd. He told Robbie that his act never felt real. He said that Alexandrea lacked stage confidence and she chose the wrong song.
