The Oscars had 40 million viewers. This could be the first year that non-American actors won the major acting awards. Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Actor award and Tilda Swinton had the best supporting actress award. They are British. Marion Cotillard, from France, won the Best Actress. Javier Bardem, from Spain, won the Best Supporting Actor.
Daniel Day-Lewis did a big show of receiving his award from Dame Helen Mirren. He got down on one knee and pretended that he was being knighted. Tilda Swinton appeared shocked at her win and could not assemble a speech in her head well. Marion Cotillard wept tears of joy when she won.
