Laura Moon’s doctors did an ultrasound scan on her and got the shocks of their lives. Laura, 18, had 4 kidneys. She is from Leeds, UK. This is a rare condition. A human having 3 kidneys is a common occurrence. Laura’s 4 kidneys were all working perfectly.
Laura discovered that she had a spare set of kidneys after undergoing tests. She pledged to donate her extra kidneys to help those in need of the organs. She has an aunt, who has a third kidney. However, her aunt was not related to her by blood so there was no genetics at work there.
In the UK, living kidney donor transplants account for more than a quarter of all kidney transplant operations.
