Josie Chapman, 16, had surgery to straighten her deformed spine and it was so successful that she won a national modeling competition in the UK. After surgery, she was 5 inches taller. With better posture and her good looks, she beat 5000 other contestants.
Josie Chapman’s spine before and after operation.
Two years ago, Josie’s spine was curved as a result of scoliosis. Her rib cage touched her spine and she experienced constant pain. After the grueling 10 hour operation, she took 3 months to recover. Her height became 5 ft 6 ins, instead of her old, bent one of 5 ft 1 ins.
Josie has a perfect posture now but cannot bend her back because of the implanted rods to straighten it. She was very happy and looked forwards to a career in modeling.
