Julie Christie got married!

Julie Christie, 66, has finally decided to get married after 28 years of consideration. She had secretly married her long time boyfriend, Duncan Campbell, a journalist. Julie reportedly informed her sole brother Clive that she got married secretly in India, 2 months ago. Clive lived in Aberystwyth, about 40 miles away from Julie’s farm in Montgomery, mid-Wales.

It was not clear what sort of marriage had taken place. It could be a civil or religious union. Clive said that he did not attend Julie’s marriage. Julie refused to be associated with Hollywood way back in the 1970s after her relationship with Warren Beatty ended.
We offer belated congratulations to the bride and bridegroom. Julie has waited nearly 30 years for this.

“Julie has waited nearly 30 years for this.”
I am quite late in commenting, but the assumption in the way this sentence is written is sexist and bad journalism.
There is no reason to assume that Julie Christie wanted and was ready to marry any sooner than she actually did.
There could have been many reasons why they did not marry earlier, including the possibility that she did not want to marry. There also could be many reasons why they chose to marry, and given that she has class and stays out of the fray of the media, we won’t know until and if she chooses to reveal those reasons.
