Universal message from rape victim’s mother.
Posted on January 26, 2008The inquest heard that the beautiful rape victim, Harriet McCormick, 20, committed suicide by jumping from a highway bridge. She blamed herself for being raped. She did not report her rape to the police because she could not identify her rapist. She suffered depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. During this time, she started self-harm and tried committing suicide unsuccessfully.
In Aug. 2007, Harriet killed herself by jumping over the bridge of the M4 motorway in Cardiff. Her mother said that she blamed herself for straying away from the safety of her group of friends. Mrs. McCormick has sent her message out to the public. She urged all rape victims to get help for themselves.
