Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Walters have separate negotiations with Gerry and Kate McCann. They were interested to have the couple talk about their missing daughter, Madeleine McCann. The McCanns said that they would consider the offers because their “Find Madeleine Fund” would be empty in June. The fund currently stood at £ 1.2 million.

The critics had voiced concerns that the McCanns were cashing in on Madeleine’s disappearance in Portugal in May 2007. The McCanns were also in negotiations to get money for the film and book rights from their story. The spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said that they would choose the deal that would allow them to widen their search for Madeleine.

Kate and Gerry McCann were suspects in the case and they were barred under strict Portuguese secrecy laws from discussing specifics about the case. Their interviews usually contained discussions on other aspects like appealing for Madeleine’s safe return.
