Rolling Stones

Celebrity gossip and rumors.

The Rolling Stones have rolled away from EMI. They were rumored to be thinking over a deal to join Universal Music Group. Universal was known to give their artists more control over their music and downloading options on the internet.

EMI had been suffering after their takeover by the private equity firm, Terra Firma. It had made cuts to save £200 million after the £3.2 billion buyout by Terra Firma. Other music artists who had quit EMI were Sir Paul McCartney, Madonna, Joni Mitchell and Radiohead.

Radiohead moved away from formal marketing by EMI and practically gave away their new album, Rainbows, for free. They left it to their fans to pay whatever they volunteered for their music. Their innovative marketing had paid off in terms of their topping the charts.
