Actress Kathy Burke had deadly superbug.
Posted on January 10, 2008Kathy Burke, 43, has finally found the courage to reveal that she almost died from a superbug infection recently last year. Kathy, formerly acting as Waynetta Slob in The Harry Enfield TV series, said she caught the stomach bug while she was receiving treatment for her abdominal and glandular complaints. The hospital which was accused of giving her the bug was the Health Service hospital in London.
Kathy tried to placate the hospital by saying that her body was already weak when the bug attacked her. She fell victim to the bug because her adrenal glands and immune system were weak.

The superbug’s official name was C. difficile and was the most common type of hospital acquired infection. The bug lived in dirty conditions. This would speak volumes on the standard of hygiene in the hospital. Kathy Burke’s case was just a typical example of how rampant bugs reigned in the hospital. Recently, UK hospitals were allocated a separate budget for specialist isolation ward staff to fight superbugs in the hospitals. It was hoped that fewer would succumb to bugs in hospitals.
