Scandal of Minister vs. Hookers.
Posted on December 21, 2007U.K. Women’s Minister, Harriet Harman, said that paid prostitution should be outlawed. Harriet said that the demand for sex workers caused the human trafficking problem. She cited Sweden as a good example, where paid sex was outlawed in 1999. Harriet has gone against her government, who wanted to relax the law to protect the sex workers. She has created a controversy and scandal.
UK’s Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, was responsible for dealing with this issue of prostitution. He said that the U.K. ministers will be visiting Sweden in Jan. to review their measures. Sweden’s street prostitution has reduced dramatically by 80%.
