Keira Knightley chose to perform her own underwater stunts for her movie, Atonement. She could have used a body double but she proved her mettle by doing her own stunts. Keira jumped into a pond to retrieve a vase dropped by her lover in the movie. Keira’s character, Cecilia, retrieved the urn, in her satin lingerie. This was by no means a simple feat as the water was freezing. Keira had to hold her breath underwater too. The crew could use scuba diving gear and oxygen tanks.

There was another, more challenging water scene when a station was bombed and Keira’s character, Cecilia, was submerged in the flood. Keira has been nominated for an award for this movie, Atonement. It remains to be seen if she will actually win in the Best Actress category.
