Jerry Seinfeld Welcomed in Israel
Posted on November 26, 2007Jerry Seinfeld has gotten a warm reception in Israel, one of the stops on his world tour to promote his film, “Bee Movie.” While in the Holy Land, the Jewish comic met the prime minister and the president. He also toured the official Israeli Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem the route taken by visiting world leaders. The Israel press covered Seinfeld’s visit in nearly full page news stories.
This is actually a return trip for Seinfeld, creator of the iconic “Seinfeld” series. The comedian visited Israel in 1971 as a 15-year-old volunteer on a kibbutz collective farm. Seinfeld talked about the differences in the experience of Israel this time around:
“I would be in the fields, and nobody wanted my autograph and nobody wanted to take their picture with me,” he told reporters in Tel Aviv. “They just let me hack away at those banana leaves, and no, I didn’t meet the prime minister even once.”
