Portia de Rossi and Joely Richardson have filmed lesbian kissing scenes in the new series of Nip/Tuck. Initially, Portia was reluctant to accept the role. Her real life partner, Ellen DeGeneres, encouraged her. Portia, a self-confessed lesbian, was worried that she would be typecast as a lesbian forever if she accepted the role. Ellen told her that it did not matter.

Portia’s co-star, Joely Richardson, did not hesitate. She said she had done lesbian scenes before. Joely said that the lesbian scenes might turn men on. It definitely evoked a reaction from Ellen. Ellen visited the set of Nip/Tuck. The cast thought that she was jealous of the on-screen lesbian scenes between her girlfriend Portia and Joely.
