It is illegal to use “Californication.”
Posted on November 20, 2007The band called “Red Hot Chili Peppers” has filed a lawsuit against Showtime Networks because the station has a new show with the trademark name of “Californication”. This name happened to be the title of the band’s hit album in 1999. It was so hot that it earned a place in Rolling Stone’s Top 500 Albums of All Time.
The law suit against Showtime Networks claimed that the Network violated federal trademark law. The source that checked the court documents said that the band has claimed that the album “Californication” and its hit song were the signature album, song and video of the band’s career.
The “Red Hot Chili Peppers” insisted that the show should stop using their name. They have also requested for the Network to surrender the profits made from the show.
