Martha Stewart Mourns Mother’s Death

Lifestyle diva, Martha Stewart, announced Saturday on her website that her mother died Friday after suffering a stroke. Martha Kostyra, passed in Weston, Conn., at the age of 93. She had been hospitalized at Norwalk Hospital.

Stewart, 66, has often credited Kostyra for passing on much of the domestic knowledge Stewart has managed to turn into an empire. Martha’s mom, nicknamed ‘Big Martha’, often appeared alongside her daughter on Stewart’s morning TV show, Martha. Kostyra was a retired teacher and the mother of six children.

Kostyra commented to CNN’s Larry King in 2003 about where Stewart’s perfectionist tendencies may have originated: “Probably learned it from me.”

Video clips of Martha and her mother together are posted on Stewart’s website along with the following words, “I am very sad to tell you that my mom passed away. Here’s a tribute to Martha Kostyra–Big Martha.”
