The big pay dirt behind Lil’ Wayne’s concert no-show.
Posted on October 22, 2007Lil’ Wayne could not perform in his concert on Sunday night in North Carolina because he knew he would not be paid. The concert was pushed as a publicity stunt for “Stop the Violence”, a campaign event to highlight the insensibilities of gang crimes that resulted in 8 murders in N.C.
The concert organizer was Mitchell Entertainment Group. They anticipated a crowd of 3000 but were bitterly disappointed when only 1000 showed. The fans who bought tickets were confused over the recent spate of media reported news about Lil’ Wayne.
First, Lil’ Wayne was detained by the law. Then the concert was cancelled for 4 weeks. The organizer, M.E.G., was forced to reschedule it. The day of reckoning came and the turn out was so poor that Lil’ Wayne knew he was not getting any money if he performed.
Local sheriffs, officers and staff offered to raise some money to encourage Lil’ Wayne to get his act going but the cash could only be handed over on Monday. This was a fantastic gesture.
Lil’ Wayne waited patiently backstage for 3 hours but nothing happened. Nobody else came to mingle with the small crowd so he walked out on the 1000 fans.
Do you think he should have been charitable and performed for the crowd?
