The legendary Luciano Pavarotti passed away on September 6, 5 am, at home in Modena, Italy. The opera tenor singer had pancreatic cancer since July 2006. After a surgical operation, he was reported to be in the mend but retired from making public appearances. Pavarotti took a turn for the worst when he was admitted into hospital this summer. There were press releases to forewarn the public of the imminient fatality of his illness.
Pavarotti was a pioneer in innovations. He successfully staged concerts with contemporary rockers like Elton John, Sting and Bono in the 1990s. He was one of the few singers who really took care of his vocal cords and they served him well into his advanced middle age. To the “King of the High Cs” – bon voyage.
