Nobody loves a sour and sore loser. Serena Williams, the darling of tennis, was dealt a slam return serve from the press after her “sullen, snippy and snarly” post-match news conference. On Wednesday, September 5, the American press turned the tables on Williams and showed her what it is like to bite the hand that feeds her press media frenzy. Yahoo! News gleefully reports the post-mortem of Williams’ unscheduled one-handed match against the massive conglomerate of American Press.
Onthebaseline.com has analyzed Williams’ loss to Belgian Justine Henin; 7-6, 6-1, as the consequence of her unprepared state. Henin might have been lucky to be spared the full assault of Williams’ on-court skills but she did not escape Williams’ value-added playing performance. Poor Henin was dealt several airy punching bag blows in bitterness, anger and emotional volleys.
