Shaq Splitting from Wife

TMZ.com has reported that Shaquille O’Neal filed divorce papers in a Miami court this week claiming his marriage of nearly five years to wife Shaunie “is irretrievably broken.” Shaq, 35, and Shaunie, 32, wed Dec. 26, 2002, in a lavish ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Shaq, then with the Lakers, gave Shaunie a ring with 17 carats of diamonds.

The couple have four children together and they each have a child from previous relationships. Reports claim that Shaunie will have primary custody of the children while Shaq will have “liberal rights of visitation.”

The Miami Heat basketball superstar earns $20 million a year with three years left on a five-year contract worth $100 million. O’Neal is asking the courts to keep confidential details of the pre-nup signed by Shaunie as these proceedings unfold.
