Pete Doherty Free on Technicality

Pete Doherty was released on August 21 without being charged with breaching his bail conditions after authorities failed to get him to court on time. Doherty, who has been undergoing court-ordered rehabilitation treatment, was arrested in east London on suspicion of possessing drugs, according to British police. The Babyshambles frontman allegedly flashed a V sign for “victory” upon his release.

The singer was apprehended for suspected drug use after a concert at about 2:30 a.m. Monday, when the car he was riding in was pulled over. The incident occurred shortly after Doherty and Babyshambles played the V Festival in central England.

In July, Doherty pleaded guilty to a pair of drunken-driving charges and possession of crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine, stemming a May 5 arrest. Earlier this month, the presiding judge, Davinder Lachlar, issued an ultimatum ordering Doherty to clean up his act or risk serious jail time. He has to face Lachlar for a hearing on September. 4th.

We’re betting Doherty’s ex, Kate Moss, is thankful she’s seperated from this train-wreck rebel rocker. He has a long history of drug abuse and legal troubles – and it doesn’t look like he’s planning on changing his partying ways anytime soon.
