Eva Mendes Signs on for New Fantasy Thriller

Eva Mendes has joined the cast of the fantasy thriller “Will Eisner’s The Spirit” to be released by Lionsgate in 2009. The film is based on a story line that involves a rookie cop (Gabriel Macht) who returns from the dead to fight crime as the Spirit from the shadows of Central City. Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson are also signed on to participate in the project.

Mendes will be playing the role of Sand Saref, a sexy siren. She is described as the only woman who could break the Spirit’s heart. As teenage lovers, the two were torn apart when Sand’s father was accidentally killed by the Spirit’s uncle.

Production for this movie is slated to begin in October in New Mexico.

Mendes recent movie credits include the hits “Hitch” and “Ghost Rider.” She’ll be seen on the big screen next in Columbia’s “We Own the Night” opposite Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg and Robert Duvall.
