Ryan Seacrest to Host Emmy Awards
Posted on August 20, 2007
Fox is hoping that Ryan Seacrest’s appeal will draw viewers, especially younger ones, to the Emmy Awards show airing September 16. Last year’s Emmys, hosted on NBC by Conan O’Brien, drew about 16.1 million viewers, the second least-watched Emmy telecast since 1991.
Seacrest is most well-known for his role as host of American Idol also carried by Fox network. Ryan is also a managing editor and anchor for cable TV’s E! News, has served as a guest host for the Larry King Live talk show, and has hosted other awards shows. He has worked in radio since the age of 16.
New Emmy nominees include Ugly Betty, Entourage and 30 Rock in comedy series programs, and Heroes along with Boston Legal in the drama series category.
Newcomers in the performer categories include Minnie Driver in The Riches, Sally Field in Brothers & Sisters, America Ferrera in Ugly Betty, Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin in 30 Rock, and Ricky Gervais in Extras.
HBO’s recently departed The Sopranos is the most-nominated series with 15 bids. The made-for-TV movie Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee has the most nominations, 17, for all programs.
