Vanessa Williams receives star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Vanessa Williams, a former Miss America turned actress and singer, has received the 2,331st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. In 1984, Williams became the first black winner of the Miss America contest, but soon after resigned after Penthouse magazine published sexually explicit photographs of her taken several years earlier.

Vanessa Williams currently stars in the surprise hit television series, “Ugly Betty.” The diverse talents of this starlet have earned her stints on Broadway appearances, Grammy nominations for several albums, and various roles in film and television. Williams ability to overcome early scandal in her career should be an inspiration for former American Idol, Antonella Barba.
