Lauper headlining True Colors tour promoting gay-rights

Cyndi Lauper, Erasure and Debbie Harry are headlining a summer tour of fifteen North American cities to promote awareness of gay-rights issues. The True Colors tour will also feature the Dresden Dolls, the Gossip and the Misshapes. Margaret Cho is slated to host the concerts.
Rufus Wainwright, the Indigo Girls and Rosie O’Donnell are also scheduled to make special appearances throughout the tour which is sponsored by the gay/lesbian TV network Logo. One dollar from every ticket sold will benefit the Human Rights Campaign, which aids the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
Cindy Lauper has been very vocal about her participation in this cause. The 80’s pop icon says a lot of fans have written her over the years to let her know that her song “True Colors” gave them hope when they were coming out with their sexual orientation to family and friends.
Lauper says, “You shouldn’t have to be treated badly because of your sexual orientation. Come on, we don’t live in a dictatorship. This is supposed to be America, the home of the free and the brave,” she says. “It can’t be free for some and not for others.”
